Purpose and direction

Vision

Berlin2027 is being shaped as a world meeting for organisations, networks, activists, artists, scientist and citizens who want to strengthen active nonviolence as a real transforming social force.

A gathering of all the efforts
of grassroots activists, political groups and politicians, experts, academics, artists, thinkers and spiritual leaders who are seeking to find and implement nonviolent solutions in all spheres of human activity, in the various sectors of society, in their countries and local communities, for peace and disarmament, for real democracy, and for the realisation and protection of human rights.

It is an attempt to give these positive forces in our world opportunities for networking, inspiration, ideas and great strength. To create an experience together that we and all participants can then take back to our home countries to share there. We hope that our luggage will be full of enthusiasm, optimism and energy; full of new ideas, projects and the confirmation that we are not alone on this planet.

Why this moment matters

Wars, militarisation, democratic retreat, social fragmentation and the normalisation of violence are shaping daily life across the world. Berlin2027 starts from the belief that nonviolence is not passive idealism. It is a method of action, a way of organising, and a strategy for transforming conflicts and it is a different, conscious attitude to life.

What the gathering should enable

  • Connect people and organisations working in different countries, sectors and social realities.
  • Exchange methods, doubts, practices and real experience of active nonviolence.
  • Generate a strong international signal that the overcoming of violence is a living and growing force.
  • Support participants in returning home with renewed energy, practical contacts and clearer next steps.

Guiding commitments

  • Keep the process internationally legible and open to different cultures and languages.
  • Build with other organisations and initiatives, not as an isolated project.
  • Start with a clear and simple structure that can expand without losing coherence.
  • Link ethical purpose to practical organisation and public visibility.

How the initiative is being built

The Exposé describes the process as one based on horizontal equality and dialogue. Since February 2026, conversations with organisations and groups explicitly committed to nonviolence have already reached more than 50 countries, with early support from around 70 organisations and institutions.

Working shape of the week

  1. Distributed events across Berlin during the early part of the week, from 26th to 30th of September 2027 (conferences, workshops, exhibitions, screenings, music and encounters).
  2. Activities will be concentrated in a central venue from 1 to 3 October, with a wide range of concurrent events (conferences, symposia and much more).
  3. A visible public moment in the city to affirm active nonviolence as a real social force.

Who this process is for

The invitation is meant for organisations, grassroots initiatives, networks, communities, mouvements, researchers, spiritual groups, artists, educators, media actors and individual supporters who recognise active nonviolence as a necessary path in the present historical moment.
